The Voice of the Hours

The Voice of the Hours

When shadows fall

and lengthen

the long night

raises its arms,

embraces the sky.

When the wind flies,

hold on to your

soul in those long

Black hours ‘til

Dawn.

Tendrils of light

stretch and breach

the horizon line.

Worlds wake as

diamonds gather,

blade by blade.

Acres of jewels

roll over the land.

Dreamland wavers,

the sleepy film thins

as your mind awakes.

Sweet seconds to lie

recounting tales

of colour and joy.

Morning is crowned.

Spun gold glitters

the sky is aflame.

Shadows shorten as

the apex is reached.

Specks of life

flit leaf to leaf

seeking sustenance

within emerald fronds.

The horizon wavers

as the hot sun

bakes the ground.

Light changes as

heat rises. Clouds

form, a storm.

Crackle and blow.

Energy streams down

as electric rods

feed the ground.

Striking sand, glass

is formed and

sculpted into beauty.

The fiery orb

dips lower,

crystallises liquid,

forms colour and fire.

Crimson bleeds Lemon

melts Violet drips

Jade. Caressing

the clouds on high.

Fat drops of sweet

water fall. The

scattered patter

of clouds weeping

echoes against

the window panes.

Rain kissed cityscape

glows gold in the

half-light. Hurrying

home, workers

shuffle for shelter.

Exhaustion settles

over the day.

Time slows for all.

Lullabies drift

through open cracks

on a breeze.

Slumber beckons,

tightening its

tenuous hold on

toddlers.

Miniature pearls

speckle the

velvet curtain

overhead.

When shadows fall

and lengthen

the long night

raises its arms,

embraces the sky.
